[Influence of pH value on the yield and biochemical composition of the microalga Dunaliella salina when cultivated on cultural liquid of Spirulina]

Bivol, C.
The green microalga Dunaliella salina is largely used in modern biotechnology due to its high content of some bioactive substances, especially glycerol and beta-carotene. One of the key factor in the cultivation process of Dunaliella is the pH level. The productivity and biochemical composition of Dunaliella salina cultivated on a new nutritive medium - culture liquid obtained on producing the blue-green algae Spirulina platensis, have been studied. It was found that Dunaliella salina grows in culture liquid of Spirulina with pH value of 8,5 as well as with higher pH values (10). The productivity of Dunaliella was insignificantly higher in case of pH 8,5. The pH value considerably influenced on the quantity of organic matter in Dunaliella salina biomass. A higher content of proteins, peptides and glycerol was noted in case of Ph 8,5 in comparison with Ph 10. The quantity of carotenoids and the chlorophyll remained constant, whereas the content of the chlorophyll was 11,59 percent less, due to the modifications occurring at photosynthetic apparatus level and being caused by bubbling the culture liquid with CO2.
