Susceptibility of brown rice and milled rice to rice weevil complex, Sitophils spp.
2006
Javier, P.A., Philippines Univ. Los Banos, College, Laguna (Philippines). Crop Protection Cluster
The susceptibility of brown rice (BR) and milled rice (MR) to the rice weevil complex was determined using rice variety NSIC Rc-112. The weevils emerged earlier from BR with an average developmental period of 29.28 days than from MR with 34.5 days. The total number of emerging F1 adults was significantly higher for BR (413) than for MR (232 adults). Likewise, the emerging F1 adults from BR were significantly heavier (1.975 mg) than those from MR (1.546 mg). Results showed that BR is highly susceptible to rice weevil since the bran, which is still intact, contains vitamins and minerals, which are not available in MR.
