The present study was done to investigate the effect of sublethal doses of the lyophilized latex pf Euphorbia royleana and the acetonitrile extract of Jatropha curcas on some biochemical parameters in Biomphalaria alezandrina snails. The effect of sublethal concentrations (LC10 and LC25) of both plants on glucose content, total proteins and free amino acids was investigated. Also their influence on some enzymes such as aspartate and alanine aminotransferases (AST and ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was evaluated. It was observed that both plant-derived molluscicides induced significant alteration in all measured parameters. It is indicated that the enzymatic activities as well as the glucose content and the total proteins of treated snails were significantly increased except for LDH, which showed a significant decrease. Also, there were significant changes in the percentages of free amino acids of treated snails. Moreover, treatment of snails with sublethal concentrations (LC10 and LC25) of both plants affected the susceptibility of B. alexandrina snails to infection with Schistosoma mansoni miracidia. It was shown that there was a significant decrease in cercariae production from treated snails, which could be attributed to the biochemical disturbance induced by both plants.
