Comparative efficiency of different phosphatic fertilizers on the growth and yield of wheat

A field experiment was conducted to compare different sources of phosphatic fertilizers and their effect on growth and yield of wheat. The recommended dose (85 kg per ha) of P fertilizer was applied in the form of DAP, SSP, NPK and Zorawar at the time of sowing. The analytical data showed that the soil was heavy in texture, non-saline (0.17-0.54 d S/m), medium alkaline in reaction (pH 8.0-8.2) moderately, calcareous (CaCO3 4.16-11.66%) in nature with poor to medium in organic matter (0.38 - 1.24%). Soil contained 1.09-5.77 mg per kg P and 123.24-91.6 mg per kg K. The plant analysis showed that the phosphorus content in straw and grains were more in Zorawar than other sources. The effect of P source for straw and grain yields was non-significant. The plants treated with NPK accumulated more K in straw than other sources. However more quantity of K was found in grains treated with Zorawar. It was further observed that the plants treated with NPK fertilizer had taller plants with lengthy spikes, more number of grains and produced more grain and straw yields. However, the effect of DAP fertilizer was greater for number of tillers and 1000 grain weight. The value cost ratio showed that Zorawar P source was economical because it contains more P205 % than other sources. However, NPK produced more straw and grain yield than other sources. Therefore, it is recommended that NPK fertilizer may be applied for wheat crop to get higher production.
