Three green seaweeds, Caulerpa scalpelliformis (R. Brown ex Turner) C. Agardh, Codium iyengarii Borgesen and Ulva fasciata Delile were collected during January 1998 and July 2000 from coastal areas near Karachi (Pakistan), dried powdered and ashed. From ashes of lower, middle and upper parts of their thalli 11 elements were quantitatively estimated. The results indicated that each species behaved differently. However, in all the three species the amounts of Ca and Co decreased from below upwards and that of K increased, while Zn showed a variable proportion in different thallus parts. In two species, the quantities of Fe and Mg decreased from below upwards, while Cu and Na increased and Cd, Cr and Pb exhibited a variable amount in different thallus parts.
