The performance of Solid Waste Organization in Los Baños, Laguna [Philippines] was assessed to determine the factors influencing its effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability in the management of the organization. Eighty-six waste-picker respondents were selected randomly from seven barangays [villages] using survey instrument. Qualitative and quantitative analysis were employed to analyze the data using the frequency distribution, means, standard deviation, test of relationships among variables, and multiple regression analyses. The factors affecting the performance of the solid waste management organization were variables of individual characteristics such as socio-economic characteristics of income, respondents' perception of the policies and plans, programs and project, and frequency of participation of members in the organizational activities. On the organizational characteristics, the factors affecting were goals, nature of organization, decision-making, problems, issues, concerns, strengths and weaknesses both at individual and organizational levels. Integration, responsiveness, capability, and institutional sustainability were used as indicative measurement of the performance of the organization. Organizational characteristics directly affect the performance of the organization. These factors, to some significant extent, affect the effectiveness of the organization, its delivery of services and sustainability . Empirical results of the study generated the model for assessing the performance of the organization as a function of organizational characteristics.
