De Chavez, E.R.C.
Mount Makiling, a vast tropical rainforest with an area of 4,244 hectares occupying the borders of Laguna and Batangas provinces, is rich in macro land snails, the least studies major invertebrate group thriving in the area. This study determined the diversity, relative abundance and spatial distribution of macro land snails ( 5mm) northeastern (UPLB-Forestry), northwestern (Puting Lupa), southeastern (MakBan) and southwestern (Sipit) slopes of Mt. Makiling. Altitude, temperature, top soil pH, soil exchangeable calcium, forest type, canopy cover, number and diameter of trees, and leaf litter depth were determined/measured. For each slope, three elevation gradients were selected: upper (600 masl), middle (500-600 masl) and lower (500 masl). Three 20 x 20 m quadrats (
