The year 2006 is still beset with finding problem since the allocation of P 2M from DA-GMA Corn program has not yet been released. FSTP worked only with its limited resources from within including the personal finances of the concerned program staff and from complementary resources of partner-agencies. Nevertheless, it has accomplished a number of significant outputs as follows: FSTP was able to graduate 1,288 farmer-scientists from Phase 1, 225 from Phase 2 and 256 from Phase 3 from the provinces of Cebu, Siquijor and Negros Oriental excluding those taught by the farmer-scientists themselves. Benchmark survey was conducted in expansion municipalities in Cebu such as San Francisco and Tudela in Camotes Island. Results of the post-training evaluation conducted in Liloan and San Francisco showed similar trends. In general, farmers regardless of educational background easily learned different improved scientific farming technologies through actual conduct of experiments right in their own farms. Among these technologies which they found to have increased corn yields were the use of: hybrid varieties IPB Var 4, IPB Var 911, IPB Var 1 and USM Var 10; Bio-N, detasseling, Trichogramma and corn earwigs; and intercropping with legumes. A refresher course on technology sharing and transfer for Phase 3 farmer-scientists was conducted in Cebu, Siquijor and Negros Oriental to make them effective volunteer-technicians. Farmers' field day (in Catmon and San Francisco, Cebu) and congress (Carcar, Cebu) were conducted which served as a venue for technology and demonstration and sharing for widespread adoption, for further commitment of support to FSTP activities from partner-agencies, to discuss and resolve problems of FSTP implementation and for awards and recognition of FSTP achievers. The LGUs [local government units] from provincial, municipal and barangay [village] levels have become more effective facilitators to implement FSTP program which became a venue for their generous sharing of their IRA funds to their farmer-scientist constituents.
