Sixteen rice hybrids were evaluated for various plant traits like; plant height (cm), productive tillers per plant, number of grains per panicle, spikelet fertility (%), thousand grains weight (g), maturity days and paddy yield (t/ha.). Hybrids were significantly different from each other among these traits. Paddy yield (t/ha.) of 11 rice hybrids ranging from 5.36-6.61 t/ha was significantly higher than check varieties IR6 (4.22), KS282 (4.54) and Basmati-385 (4.44). Sonar Bangla-1 (6.61 t/ha) was the top yielder whereas GNY403 (3.29 t/ha) remained at bottom. The highest values of productive tillers per plant, number of grains per panicle and thousand-grains weight were recorded for the rice hybrids Numerain2 (25.6), GNY401 (171.1) and GNY403 (27.9). Grain quality of rice hybrid LH-1 (Basmati background) was at par with the Basmati check variety Basmati 385. Amongst the coarse group, 6 rice hybrids viz. Numerain2, Sumerain2, Winall-1, Sonar Ba ngla-1, GB-4 & LH-4 showed better grain quality than check variety KS282. The yield of hybrid rice was superior to inbred. The level of genetic variability observed for different characters would be useful for breeding new parental lines.
