The objective of the study was to determine the antioxidant activity and the content of anthocyanins in some selected plum cultivars (Prunus domestica) grown in Poland. The antioxidant activity was determined colourmetrically using a cation-radical of 2,'2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS), and the results were expressed in equivalents of mcmol Trolox/g. The content of anthocyanins was determined using a differential spectrophotometric method according to Fuleki and Francis. The antioxidant activity of fresh fruit ranged from 12.5 to 22.9 mcmol Trolox/g. The cultivars of Cacanska Najbolia, Bluefre, and Valor showed a high level of the antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activity converted per dry matter was high in the cultivars of Bluefre and Cacanska Najbolia, and amounted to 162 and 144 mcmol Trolox/g d.m. respectively. The cultivars of Wegierka Zwykla, Wegierka Dabrowicka, and Valjevka had a low antioxidant activity level. The highest content of anthocyanins was noted in the Valor cultivar, 73.4 mg percent d.m.
