This study was conducted to identify, collect, and verify Garcinia sp. and other tropical fruits present in Palawan; to identify elite germplasm; and to develop methods for utilizing the evaluated genetic resources for improvement. The study documented 46 species of tropical fruit species present in the Mantalingahan Range Rizal, Palawan: 11 fruit species and raised 13 different species in the nursery for the field genebank and sources of fruit stock for asexual propagation, Coordinate readings were taken using the Global Positioning System (GPS) for the species encountered. Majority of the fruits identified and collected are widely utilized as food by the indigenous tribes and sold in the market particularly during 'taboan' or market day. Among the indigenous fruits commonly sold are the following: (Whillughbeia sp.) tabo and palau-biyok; Nephelium spp. (maraitum, manti and usaw), and Artocarpus champeden (badak), Durio spp. (loud and dugyan), Garcinia lateriflora (kandis) and Xantophyllum amoenum (mararing).
