The effect of increasing nitrogen doses and soil inoculation with mycorrhizic fungi on the quality of thyme (Thymus vulgaris L) yield have been determined. Nitrogen fertilization exerted a significant effect on yield of thyme raw material and on the content of essential oils. On the other hand, substrate mycorrhization brought a positive effect only at low nitrogen content in the substrate. The highest yield of fresh matter of thyme and of essential oils content was obtained using 180 = (120+60) mg N/cubic dm of substrate and the mycorrhization treatment. In leaves, in comparison with stems, higher amounts of nitrogen, calcium and magnesium were found. The amounts of phosphorus and sodium were similar, while the least amounts of potassium were found in leaves sampled from plants grown on the substrate with mycorrhizic fungi in comparison with analogical fertilization combinations without mycorrhization
