This study is mainly about supporting strategic decision making under risk in the agricultural sector. It focuses mainly on the classifications of the agricultural Decision Support Systems (DSS) and their implementations that are becoming increasingly important. The main part of the thesis is a comprehensive literature review which was completed around the theoretical issues that constitute the framework of DSS in agriculture, and a classification was implemented based on a set of predetermined criteria in order to have a clear detailed view of the decision support system in agriculture. The classification strategy was based on fifty articles discussing DSSs in agriculture and twenty eight criteria (Appendix B) that will be tested for each DSS. The methodology strategy of the thesis was based on the dynamic analysis. An example of the DSS application was implemented to show how a DSS can be used in order to provide an opportunity for specialists, early adopters and future end users to consider how DSSs should evolve within the wider context of farm information technology and to begin to produce a strategic view for the farm business. To accomplish the stated purpose, we will provide an overview of methods and how it can be implemented.
