Coleosporium inula, a significant rust pathogen of ellecanpane , has been described for the first time on these medical plant in Serbia. The pathogen was identified on the experimental fields in Pancevo, as well on the uncultivated ellecanpane plants in Belgrade and Obrenovac. The symptoms of the disease appear on all green parts of the plant, especially on the leaves. Chlorotic spots are obvious on the upper part of leaf. On the underside of the leaf, orange to brown uredio- and teliosori have been formed. There are over 100 teliosori per leaf. Teliosori are also formed on the stem, but in lower quantities. Based on the morphology of uredio and teliospores, the pathogen was identified as Coleosporium inulae. The pathogen is heteroxenic, forming spermatogonia and aecia on the black pine (Pinus silvestre L.) and uredinia and telia on ellecanpane (Inula helenium).
