Development of Novi Sad is closely related to two large water streams: the Danube and the canal Novi Sad - Savino Selo, which belongs to the Hydrosystem Danube-Tisza-Danube (DTD). Because of that, to save quality of mentioned water ecosystems is very important. During two years (2006 and 2007) canal water quality was observed in the territory of Novi Sad city. According to analyzed parameters (dissolved oxygen, BOD5, COD, suspended matters, nitrates and nitrites) water quality is shown. Also, assessment of water stream category, with regard to required criteria, is given.
