Possibility of the improvement of cleaning procedure of ceramic membranes fouled with whey proteins were investigated in this thesis. Experimental investigations were performed on membranes of the mean pore size of 50 and 200 nm. Influence of the cleaning agent choice and concentration on the efficiency of cleaning was studied. Efficiency was evaluated from the point of view of chemicals and time consumption. The experimental results have shown that the cleaning procedure of 50 nm membrane, proposed by the membrane suppliers, can be improved. Investigation has shown that the 200 nm membrane can not be so easily cleaned independently to the applied cleaning procedure because of the significant adsorption of whey proteins in the pores. Low flux regeneration of 78% was achieved after cleaning in place with 0.6% (w/w) sodium hydroxide solution. Application of ultrasound for cleaning of 200 nm membrane has shown positive effect especially in the case of chemical cleaning with detergent. Mathematical model of cleaning kinetics was defined. The study has shown that cleaning efficiency and procedure can be imporved compared to the cleaning procedure proposed by membrane suppliers.
