Regarding current/actual problem in human and veterinarian medicine, we decided to investigate presence/prevalence of Listeria monocytogenes in animal meat of some slaughter houses in Serbia. In the second half of 2007 we examined 30 samples of meat; there was 10 samples of beef meat, 10 of pork (pig meat) and 10 of poultry meat. Two samples of beef and pork meat were contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, as well as one sample of poultry meat. This investigation demonstrates that Listeria monocytogenes is present in meat most frequently used for human nutrition in Serbia. Concerning thermically insufficient processing of meat as a way of Listeria monocytogenes to humans, it is quite justifiable to make obligatory investigation of nutrients to presence of Listeria monocytogenes in proposal of Regulations of Microbiogical Criteria of Food Accuracy.
