Biological value and parameters of safety of brown seaweeds in the Far-Eastern seas

The paper presents some data on chemical composition of 16 brown seaweed species inhabiting the coastal waters of Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Primorsky Krai. It is established that concentration of the basic components (protein, mannit, alginic acid, lipids, fucoidan) in Fucales seaweeds is comparable to their concentration in Laminariales seaweeds. Laminaria japonica, Laminaria bongardiana, Laminaria yezoensis, Arthrothamnus bifidus, Kiellmaniella crassifolia, Alaria marginata, Alaria angusta, Fucus evanescens, Cystoseira crassipes, Sargassum pallidum are the most important. Toxicological estimation of all investigated samples is carried out.The ratio of potassium, sodium and magnesium is in the same range for all seaweed species irrespective of their habitat, except for Laminaria yezoensis, Fucus evanescens and Sargassum pallidum. Microelement composition of brown seaweeds varies very much. Iodine contents in seaweeds from Fucales order is 10-125 times lower than in the basic trade seaweeds from Laminaria genus.
