[Therapeutic and prophylactic efficiency of antibacterial, immunomodulatory and biological drugs for respiratory diseases in calves of virus bacterial etiology]

There have been developed some methods of treating and preventing respiratory diseases in calves of virus bacterial etiology at the farms of the Nizhniy Novgorod region which were permanently unsafe as to parainfluenza-3, infectious rhinotracheitis and bovine viral diarrhea (the incidence in calves was 68-85%, lethality – 18-25%). As is shown, the combined application of sulfatetrine-M (SM), zoolan and hyperimmune serum (HS) promoted increasing the therapeutic and prophylactic efficiency up to 100 and 95.5%, respectively, only HS and zoolan – up to 85.8%. SM was administered to sick calves for a therapeutic purpose twice a day at the dose 0.7 g/kg until complete recovery; zoolan – 2.0 twice a day and HS – 2 ml/kg in an interval of 48 h also till complete recovery; for a prophylactic purpose: 0.5 g/kg; 2.0 and 1 ml/kg, thrice, in an interval of 10 days, respectively. The criteria of the estimation were; the number of recovered and dead calves, the disease period, recurrences and immune status of sick calves. The combined application of zoolan, HS and SM had the most pronounced effect on the parameters of cell and humoral immunity. The content of B-lymphocytes in sick calves increased by 106.2-163.3%, activity of neutrophils – by 122.4-172.3%, lysozyme activity – by 109.1-136.3%, bactericidal activity of blood serum – by 3.9-15.2%. The prophylactic efficiency of the combined application of HS + zoolan + SM was 95.5%, HS + zoolan – 85.8%, HS alone – 77.8%. The efficiency of combined application of said drugs allows to recommend them for wide application in production conditions
