A lot of quality and structure information as well as information about health suitability of feeds, premixes and supplements can be gained by microscopical examination of feed. Microscopical methods are often used to check for lake feeds made of less nutritive and worse digestible substances, which can significantly decrease the quality of feeds or can even be toxic to animals and subsequently to people. To perform microscopical examination of feeds instruments such as mills, mixers, strainers as well as a stereomicroscope and a light microscope with polarization, fluorescent light and phase contrast are needed. In Slovenia, an official EU method for the determination of constituents of animal origin in feed has been user for years. Additionaly, 20 samples of feed for birds were examined on the content of common ragweed seeds (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) using the microscopic method. Thirteen samples out of twenty contained from 1 to 235 common ragweed seeds per 500 g of feed.
