Breeding results of simmental cattle in Slovenia | Rezultati selekcije pri lisasti pasmi v Sloveniji
2009
Osterc, J., Ljubljana Univ. (Slovenia). Biotechnical Fac., Zootechnical Dept.
In the last 15 years the population of Simmental cattle in Slovenia ranges between 50 and 60 % of all cattle. During this period, the frame of animals has increased, the average phenotypic and genetic increase of rump height was 0.160 and 0.075 cm / year. The increase of frame is largely contributed by the introduction of foreign genes (RHF). During the same period, the estimated annual phenotypic and genetic progress for milk yield was 69 and 19.1 kg of milk per year. Differences in annual changes in yields are actually the same in pure-bred Simmental animals and their crossbreeds. While in the past 20 years, the average genetic changes in the properties of growth and carcass quality were negative or close to zero (with the exception of the warm carcasses), but the estimated genetic trends in all these properties were positive in the last five year period.
