The analysis of longevity and its effect on dairy production economic were examined for 77,737 dairy cows which were included in the control of milk recording system in Slovenia. Cows that calved from January 1, 1995, through December 31, 2000, and were located on farms which were members of the milk recording system in Slovenia on December 31, 2006, are included. The mean length of productive life for analysed cows was 47.4 months, the mean age at first calving was 28.8 months, the mean age at disposal was 76.1 months, the mean number of parities was 3.75, the mean lifetime milk yield was 22,464 kg, the mean milk yield per productive day was 15.1 kg and the mean milk yield per lifetime day was 8.6 kg. The survival rates were 81.0 % to parity 2; 66.1 % to parity 3; and 50.7 %, 36.0 %, 23.1 %, 12.8 %, 5.8 % to parities 4 through 8, respectively. For the estimation of the effect of longevity on economics of milk production the simulation model (model calculation for farms) developed at Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, which enables the estimation of total production costs, was used. The costs per unit for 1 ton milk for black-white breed without subsequent parity were 506.8 EUR for cows with one parity, 376.8 EUR for cows with two parities; and 338.6 EUR, 320.7 EUR, 310.4 EUR and 303.7 EUR for cows with three, four, five or six parities. Cows black-white breed wit six parities in lifetime had on average 9 % higher yearly milk yield than cows black-white breed with two parities in lifetime.
