Over-winter cover crops | Prezimna ozelenitev njivskih povrsin
2007
Kramberger, B., Maribor Univ. (Slovenia). Fac. of Agriculture and life Sciences
In eight field experiments which were examined from 2004 to 2007 at several different locations in Eastern Slovenia, crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.), subterranean clover (Trifolium subterraneum L.), hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth.), red clover (Trifolium pratense L.), Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam. ssp. italicum Shinz & Kell.) and winter rape (Brassica napus L. var. napus Thell) were sown on different sowing dates, in late summer or in autumn, and ploughed-in on different dates in spring. The paper summarizes the effects of different cover crop treatments on soil mineral content in autumn, winter and early spring, on nitrogen uptake by plants, nitrogen accumulation in organic matter, symbiotic nitrogen fixation, and yield of the subsequent main crop (sugar beet, maize) in the field crop rotation.
