Information accumulated to day clearly indicates that selenium in organic form, for example as Se-enriched yeast, has a range of important commercially valuable advantages. Therefore the main advantages of organic selenium in poultry diets came from better Se transfer to egg and semen leading to improvement of egg quality (hatchability and fertility) as well as to improvement of chick viability. Furthermore, it seems likely that organic selenium could be also transferred to egg shell, affecting its quality. Se reserves accumulated in tissues (muscle) could help poultry maintain productive and reproductive performance in commercial stress conditions. Enrichment of eggs and poultry meat with Se from Sel-Plex (R) is a commercially valuable application.
