The paper analyzes how the high food prices affect household welfare under different input market imperfections that may be prevalent in the developing countries. Our results suggest that with assumptions of no land market and perfect labour market, net consuming household loses with high food prices and gains if it turns into a net producer. The same result is found for net consuming household in the presence of both land and labour imperfections, while net producing household may not be able to gain in this case.
