Abstract International economic relations are developing dynamically and are enforced by foreign investments. The main forms of implementation of foreign capital are the direct and portfolio investment. Theoretical definition of foreign direct investment (FDI) is not clear and the criteria and how to define them more access. FDI contributes to economic growth and are one of the possible outcomes address the lack of internal resources. The evolution of FDI inflows in Slovakia is still a growing trend, but their overall condition and the volume is compared with other countries is comparatively low and the needs inadequate. Poor is the sectoral focus of FDI, it is dominated by entry into the automotive industry, with a strong international character, which is very vulnerable to cyclical fluctuations. Regional and sectoral distribution of FDI in the Slovak Republic is also inadequate and is strongly focused only in areas with developed infrastructure. Most FDI in Slovak Republic is concentrated only in five sectors.
