Determination of metabolizable energy of new added-value products is important for feed formulation. Metabolizable energy of yellow corn, palm kernel meal (solvent extraction, PKM) and fermented palm kernel meal with Aspergillus wentii TISTR 3075 (FPKM) were evaluated in adult meat type crossbred chickens. The apparent metabolizable energy (AME, DM basis) of corn, PKM and FPKM were 3,628.88, 2,201.83 and 2,080.26 kcal/kg, respectively. The nitrogencorrected apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn), true metabolizable energy (TME) and nitrogencorrected true metabolizable energy (TMEn) of PKM (DM basis: 2,202.05, 2,958.21 and 2,957.86 kcal/kg, respectively) were slightly higher than FPKM (DM basis: 2,080.33, 2,843.01 and 2,842.50 kcal/kg, respectively). Aspergillus wentii may use up nitrogen-free extract (NFE) in PKM as energy source during fermenting process, resulting in low metabolizable energy of FPKM when compared to PKM (without fermentation).
