Effect of desiccation on spore releasing of Gut weed (Ulva intestinalis Linnaeus) was studied in different desiccation periods of 0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes. Spores released from U. intestinalis were counted under microscope every 3 hours for 24 hours after desiccation. Results of the present study showed that the highest number of spores released within 24 hours was 4,879.78+-138.62 cells/g at 30 min desiccation followed by 4,392.89+-127.83, 4,075+-173.44, 2,226.00+-122.32, and 322.00+-73.34 cells/g at 45, 15, 60 and 0 min desiccation, respectively. The spore releasing rate was highest at 9 hours after initial time from 30 min desiccation with 1,006.44+-7.13 cells/g/3hrs. The germling at 1 day was a unicell, 8-10 micro m in diameter. After 3 days, cell division occurred and developed to a young thallus which was 30-50 micro m in length within 2 weeks.
