Study on some proper cultural practices for specialized safe vegetable production areas (peri - urban areas of Hanoi)

The survey indicated that pollution of vegetable products in Hanoi peri urban areas was quite high: Donganh had more serious pesticide residues than Gialam and Thanhtri; while Thanhtri had high heavy metal content in vegetable products, especially Pb in kangkong. In order to have safe vegetable products, it is needed to select cultivating land and irrigated water with pesticide, microorganism heavy metal residues lower than MRL. Application of fertilizers should be balanced, especially N fertilizer and harvesting time after N application should be at least 10 days (As for poncho, it should be 15 - 20 days), days from pesticide spraying (with right concentration) to harvesting should be at least 10 days. Polluted cultivating land or irrigated water greatly affects heavy metal residues in leafy vegetable products and lower in fruity vegetable ones. Adding minerals (Bentonite or Zeolite with amount of 20 tons/ha) limits heavy metal residues in vegetable products and makes heavy metal not accumulated in soil.
