During 2001-2005, a total of 22 food crops varieties and 6 production protocols developed by Food Crops Research Institute (FCRI) have officially released by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). The Institute has also developed a number of new promising crops varieties which have preliminary released by MARD. The major achievements of FCRI were the development of new rice hybrids (HYT83, HYT92, HYT100, LHD5...) and conventional early maturing rice varieties (DB1, DB6, N203...) for the irrigated rice ecosystem; high quality rice varieties (P6, P1, AC5...); new upland crops varieties of groundnut (L.14, L.18...), soybean (DT12, AK06, DT22, D9804...), potato (V38.6, P3), sweet potato (KB1, TV1...) suitable for different cropping systems and vegetable varieties/hybrids of tomato (C95, VT3) and cucumber (PC4) suitable for row consumption and processing. For the period of 2006-2010, FCRI will focus research on development of new crops varieties with high yield (hybrid rice of 10-12 t/ha, early maturing rice of 7- 8 ton/ha, high quality rice of 5.5 - 6.5 t/ha, groundnut of 5.5-6.0 t/ha, soybean of 2.5-3.5 t/ha, potato of 25- 30 t/ha, sweet potato of 25- 30 t/ha, tomato of 60- 65 t/ha, cucumber of 45-50 t/ha), high quality, high resistance/tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses, and suitable to different agro ecological regions and growing conditions; research on integrated crops management (ICM) of rice, upland crops and vegetables; research on development of sustainable cropping systems for the Red River Delta.
