The rainfalls share the main part of the available water content in Bulgarian soils. A preliminary estimation of rainfall absorption is necessary for correct planning of the water amounts for irrigation application. The paper deals with the dynamics of the available water content and the effective rainfalls in two soil types of Southern Bulgaria - vertisols and chromic luvisols throughout a yearly winter wheat farming cycle. The study target is the root zone and the integrated soil layers top 50 cm, top 100 cm, and 100-200 cm. The rainfall data processed comprise the period from October 1st of the previous year to September 30th next year in the 1997-2002 five-year cycle. They are collected from the representative for vertisols and chromic luvisols agrometeoroligical stations Chirpan and Haskovo in Southern Bulgaria. The soil multi-layer effective rainfall under winter wheat is evaluated by Harchenko equation from the Russian simulation model Weather-Yield adapted to the Bulgarian soil-climatic conditions and are graphically presented. calculated are coefficients of rainfall absorption the effective rainfall for the autumn-winter, spring-simmer periods and yearly.
