The following malting barley varieties were registered in the Czech Republic in 2009: Advent, Henley, Henrike, Signora, Streif, Vista (spring varieties) and Wintmalt (winter variety). The following nonmalting varieties were also registered: Kontiki, AF Lucius (spring varieties), Faraon, Heike, Saffron, Wendy (winter varieties). Agronomic as well as technological characteristics of the malting barley were determined. Except for the varieties Vista and Wintmalt, the extract content in all the other malting varieties was higher than 82%. The concentration of nitrogenous substances varied between 10.4 and 11.3%. The highest level of beta-glucans was determined in Advent (301 mg/L) and Streif (253 mg/L).
