The aim of this study was to determine the occurrence of microorganisms (especially fungi) on seeds of malting spring barley varieties and lines (Amulet, Bojos, Jersey, Malz, Prestige, Sebastian, Tolar, Merlin, KM 1057, KM 1910, KM 2084, KM 2283) in two Czech localities, Zabcice (2005, 2007, 2008) and Kromeriz (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008). Experimental plants were treated with fungicides and mineral fertilizers (group O) or not (group N). The highest proportion of colonizing microorganisms was made up by fungi. The most frequent fungi present belonged to genera Alternaria, Cladosporium, Epicoccum, Fusarium, Aspergillus and Penicillium. The application of the fungicides was not sufficient against Fusarium spp. The occurrence of different fungal species was influenced by treatments, varieties, localities and year.
