In 2010 spring barley malting varieties Berlioz, Gladys, Lilly, and Paulis were registered in the Czech Republic. Extract content in malt of the variety Gladys was around 83.2 %. High level of proteolytic modification was exhibited by the varieties Berlioz and Lilly. Proteolytic modification in the varieties Gladys and Paulis was on the optimal level, amylolytic modification was high in all the studied varieties. Wort quality of the studied varieties was on the optimal level. Cytolytic modification was medium to high. The highest values of cytolytic modification were achieved in the variety Lilly. In addition, the non-malting varieties of spring barley Grace, Calcule, and Sladar and four winter barley varieties, the two-row variety Yatzy and three six-row varieties (Jup, Semper, and Souleyka) were also registered. None of the varieties was recommended for the production of beer with the protected geographical indication 'Czech Beer'.
