The aim of this work was to evaluate milk fatty acid (FA) profile produced in dairy farms from Asturias (North-West of Spain) to establish differences according to management systems. During spring 2008, 1100 lactating dairy cows from twenty farms were selected and divided in two homogeneous groups: one fed exclusively with TMR (indoor) and the other one fed mixed grazing-indoor. Feedstuffs and milk bulk tank were sampled weekly. We observe differences in milk composition with higher fat and protein content in indoor than mixed feeding system. Medium chain milk fatty acid content decrease due to diminution palmitic acid in mixed management, nevertheless this group showed higher concentration of long chain FA specially vaccenic acid, CLA and linolenic acid (2.79, 0.91 and 0.41 g/100gFA, respectively). When grazing is not included in feeding system the concentration of long chain FA is lower (1.80, 0.47 and 0.25 g/100gFA, for vaccenic, CLA an linolenic respectively). This effect could be influenced for pasture ingestion as source of polyunsaturated FA, improving the saturated/unsaturated FA and omega-6/omega-3 ratios.
