Ovum Pick-up (OPU) in cattle can be used in animals at various physiological states (cyclic, noncyclic, early pregnancy), and also for older cows with non genetics reproductive disorders, juvenile calves and prepubertal heifers. The repeated recovery of oocytes permits production of more embryos than might be possible by standard ET protocols. The combination of OPU and IVP techniques could be a potential alternative to traditional embryo production. The aim of this work was to determine OPU performance in dry and non stimulated cows to value recovery and competence of oocytes to using in IVP systems. The number of oocytes recovery by OPU session and animal and the percentages of viable, not viable, degenerate, mature and immature oocytes were obtained. 84 OPU sessions were carried out at 3-4 days intervals in 18 normal cyclic, dry and non stimulated cows from Holstein Friesian and Schwarzbunterind breeds. We followed the methodology described by Oropeza et al. (2004) for OPU technique. Viable oocytes obtained by OPU session and animal (4.2) was similar to bibliography in same conditions. Maturation rate was higher than 80% of viable ovocytes. OPU in dry and non stimulated cows is competent in combination with PIV for production of bovine embryos.
