Root-knot nematodes Meloidogyne spp. severely attack tomato resulting in yield loss. Selected nematicides tested on different tomato cultivars in the northern savanna and forest-savanna zones of Ghana reduced root-knot nematode infection and increased yield. Highest yield increase of 131.92 per cent was obtained when cultivar 'St Peters' was grown in phenamiphos-treated soil in the northern savanna zone. In the forest-savanna transitional zone, the highest yield increase of 95.2 per cent was recorded when cultivar 'Asesewa' was grown in 1, 3-D-treated soil. Phytotoxicity was observed when DBCP and dazomet were applied and slight yield suppression occurred only in DBCP treated plots.
