Thre different sugar beet farms were selected and two parts of 500 m2 chosen in each farm. In one part of each farm, sugar beet tops and crowns (SBTC) were collected before harvesting (T1) but in another one after harvesting of tuber (T2). Costs and quality of collected SBTC were compared. The SBTC collected in T1, had better quality than that of T2 but because of more labour used for T1, it was more costly when compared with T2. In the next stage, silage characteristics of SBTC obtained from each collection method were studied in which the SBTC was ensiled with addition of 10% molasses and 2% urea, using a completely randomized block experiment, with two treatments (T1 and T2)) and four replications. Result showed that T1 had better quality with higher organic matter and crud protein but lower pH (P 0.05) when compared with T2. In addition, crude protein, true protein and non protein nitrogen were significantly (P 0.05) higher in T1 than that of T2. The digestibility of dry mater, organic mater and digestible value were significantly higher in T1 than T2 when teste in sheep.
