This study was conducted to compare wool characteristics of crossbred Zandi and Shal with Zel breeds of sheep. 126 Zandi and 80 Shal ewes were artificially inseminated respectively with 8, 4 and 4 Zandi, Shal and Zel ram fresh semen. Sheep were inoculated against Anthrax, Pox and Agallaxia. In breeding season sheep were fed on oat and maize residues. To measure staple length, diameter and washing yield 10 grams of wool was collected from the left midside of sheep. Average fibre diameter of Zandi X Zandi, Shal X Shal, Zel X Zandi and Zel X Shal was respectively 32.42±1.21, 28.32±0.41, 33.19±0.94 and 32.77±0.94. Fibre diameter of Zandi X Zandi and Shal X Shal was significantly (P0.05) lower than the crossbred sheep. Average percentage of variation of fibre diameter of Zandi X Zandi, Shal X Shal, Zel X Zandi and Zel X Shal was 46.73±1.34, 44/18±2.13, 39.67±1.56 and 42.15±1.89 respectively. Average S/P ratio of Zandi X Zandi, Shal X Shal, Zel X Zandi and Zel X Shal was 3.91±0.58, 2.71±0.64, 3.41±0.70 and 2.31±0.33 respectively. In conclusion no significant difference was found in wool characteristics of crossbred sheep but if meat quality is improved this crossbreeding scheme could be useful.
