Eraghi , H
American foulbrood disease is dreaded by most beekeepers as many colonies were destroyed in different provinces. in many samples rhe honey of bee colonies can contain spores of the A merican foulbrood bacterium Bacillus larvae without showingany clinical symptoms of disease. Generally the spores of the American foulbrood bacterium can bee detected at least one year before the outbreak of the disease.Bacil/w' larvae is not known to cause any adverse reactions in human. 502 samples of honey supplied by west-Azarbayjan honey producers were tested by the Hansen method for the presence of American foulbrood(Bacilluslarrae) spores. The procedures include culture on rhe columbias, blood-agar and MYPGP-AGAR.196(39%)samples were found to be positil'e.l believe that the Hansen method will be useful in screening indi1'idual colonies to determin the hives which should be carefully inspected to control potential economic loss from American foulbrood.
