Consumer's response to organic agricultural products and the production behavior of organic farmers: A questionnaire analysis

In this paper, questionnaire surveys are done to both consumers and producers, for analyzing the needs to organically grown food products and the production situation of organic farmers. The consumers are chosen from the union members of coop Ehime, and farmers are the members who ship their products to Ehime Organic Coop. As a result, it has been understood that many consumers value the price in their food purchasing. More than half the consumers have the experience of buying organically grown food products. Problems other than the price also exist in the reason why organically grown food products are not bought. Many farmers show that their yields are not easily to get stable even if the farmers with several years organic farming practice. The results also show that farmer's safe and health concern has been the main motive for the organic farming. The farmer who doesn't feel the difficulties in their organic farming show significant intension for the expansion of organic farming. These results suggest the high potential to develop the organic farming by solving the problems that farmers face.
