Development structure of relation between forest and human in Shennongjia forest region in China: Historical transition in forestry development by government

This study is on ecotourism development in China with Shennongjia Forest Region (SFR) as a case study. The aim of this study was to investigate the structure and development process of ecotourism in order to grasp the policy and feature of different development stages in SFR. Furthermore, clarification has been made on the influence of forestry development to the local residents. The study found that forestry in the SFR has been resulted from the development stages such as extensive development stage, forest conversion early stage, struggle for forest conservation, and the development stage for ensuring the sustainability. With these four stages of development, the residents' livelihoods productivity and life style have been changed, economic development, local residents' benefits have been increased gradually, in terms of improvement in their life environment. At the same time, there has been a change in industrial structure that might have created avenue for many jobs to the local community. Therefore, local community has been seriously considering the importance of the protection of natural environment. In order to make sustained development in this region, national economy could not make any developments for ecological improvement focusing on primary forestry harvesting only. Parameters for sustained development are in existence throughout the region which are readily developed. It is also realized that all the supporting elements are available in the region for developing an ecological environment incorporating necessary economic activities. As a whole, it is concluded that both the sustained economy and ecological developments are going on in SFR currently.
