Maize is increasingly used for energy production in agricultural biogas plants. The paper was aimed to determine the influence of fresh and ensiled maize for biogas production at three different harvest times in Latvia conditions. Field trial was carried out in Vecauce in 2008. Ten maize hybrids with different maturity rating according FAO numbers (FAO 180-270) were harvested at three different times beginning on 5 September at fourteen days intervals. Two hybrids 'Tango' and 'Celido' were used for biogas production in laboratory. The biogas yield from the fresh maize hybrids increased until the final harvest date. The average specific biogas yield from ensiled maize was higher if compared with fresh maize, but maize hybrid and harvest date did not affect it significantly (p is greater than 0.05).
