In Latvia, more than 30 harvesters are at present used for logging than. The productivity of this expensive machine to a great extent depends on the operator's knowledge and skills. The major objective of the International Project HARVESTHEAD is to work out a training module for improving the operators' awareness of the role of the harvester's head unit and on-board computer system for timber measurement and information flow. The results of a questionnaire by as a HARVESTHEAD project partner in Latvia, show the communication technology tools available, training received by harvester operators, the use of calibration and optimisation systems.
