Two germanium(IV) compounds: GeO2 and GeSe2 have been tested for their effect on the productivity and dynamics of germanium accumulation in the biomass of Spirulina platensis. In case of both compounds, as their concentration increased, the yield of Spirulina also increased when the compounds were added in the first day of cultivation at concentrations comprised within the range 5-15 mg/l for GeO2 and 5-25mg/l for GeSe2. When the compounds were added in the third day of cultivation or by parts the yield was lower. The highest content of germanium in the biomass (128,39 percent for GeO2 and 149,48 percent for GeSe2) was obtained when the compounds were added by parts at the concentration of 25 mg/l. The results of this study demonstrated that both compounds can be used for obtaining biomass enriched with germanium.
