National implementation plan for the Stockholm convention development in Moldova

The Stockholm Convention has been ratified by the Republic of Moldova on February 19, 2004 and entered into force at the international level on Mai 19, 2004. The national strategy on the reduction and elimination of POPs and National Implementation Plan of the Stockholm Convention (NIP)have been approved by the Government decision nr.1155 on October 20, 2004. These documents insure the implementation of the Stockholm Convention and contribute in the solving of the environmental problems regarding the POPs impact on the human health and environment. The National Implementation Plan was developed within a participatory process including public participation with assistance from the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in the period of 2002-2004. Relevant ministries, departments, NGOs and local public authorities were involved. The process was based on an initial inventory, legal and institutional assessments, objectives and priority setting, NGOs consultation. The document was developed with the participation of the national and international experts.
