Ovarian, uterine and embryonic changes from days 20 to 90 of gestation in Holstein-Sahiwal dairy cows observed through ultrasonography
2009
De Ramos, M.S.
The study was conducted to determine ovarian and uterine tissue densities, endometrial echotexture and measurements in the uterus and the ovaries from days 20 to 90 of pregnancy. Four crossbred pregnant dairy cows starting at day 20 post breeding were used in the experiment. Significant differences were not observed between periods of examination in terms of size of ovaries, atretic follicle and corpus luteum. Presence of wave-like patterns of increase and decrease in the number of subordinate follicles were observed on both ovaries, suggesting presence of follicular wave. Dominant follicle appeared as circular anechoic area that was observed in the Contralateral ovary of some of the animals on day 27 to 33 of gestation. Embryonic vesicles appeared as irregularly shape anechoic areas inside the ipsilateral horn that were observed on days 27 to 33 of gestation. The embryo was mostly detected on days 48 to 54 of gestation in all animals and as early as 34 to 40 days in 1 of 4 animals. It appeared as a small hyperechoic structure.
