The Science and Technology-Based Farm (STBF) Project, under the Techno Gabay Program, aims to showcase the effectiveness of S and T interventions in improving productivity and income of Magsasaka Siyentista (MS) and other adopters/beneficiaries in the locality through the Farmer's Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center. The STBF in Pias Norte, Currimao, which was established in WS 2008, focused on showcasing intensive cropping system (direct- seeded rice- minimum tillage onion + corn relay- mungbean) compared with the common cropping pattern in the locality (rice-corn). To showcase zero tillage with mulch on white corn production, the STBF in Baoa West, Batac City was initiated in DS 2007-2008. To fast-track technology transfer to farmer clienteles, the STBF was complemented with the conduct of Farmer's Field School (FFS) field days and field visits. The FFS on rice production was conducted in WS 2008 STBF in Batac City with about 30 farmers. Classes on corn were attended by the same groups of farmers in DS 2008-2009. The result of the Modified Dry Direct Seeding Technology (MDDST) for rice was showcased to about 60 farmers in Currimao during the field day in October 2008. Starting September 2008, 128 NTA Extension Workers assigned in Batac, Abra, Vigan and Palayamanan farmers from Pidigan, Abra and Lidlidda, Ilocos Sur visited the STBF in Currimao. The STBFs have served many farmers not only in the Ilocos Region, but even as far as Southern Tagalog. Fast-tracked techno transfer from the MS to other farmers was realized through demo farms, FFS, field days, field visits and distribution of IEC materials. MS are of great help in technology, generation, development, and promotion.
