Assessing the impact of rice farming technologies is very important to determine its advantage and disadvantages once up-scaled. In line with this, the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), through its Rice Engineering and Mechanization Division (REMD), has been developing, improving and promoting different farm machinery for rice production that can increase yield, labor productivity and efficiency, and income of rice farmers and one of these is the drum seeder. These machines are expected to contribute in attaining self-sufficiency and competitive rice economy. Thus, the objectives of the study are: 1) identify factors influencing adoption of drum seeder; 2) evaluate and compare the benefits of rice farming with and without using the rice machines; and 3) draw policy recommendations that will lead to maximize the benefits from the technologies while minimizing the undesirable impacts. The study was conducted in Iloilo, Mindoro Oriental, and Nueva Ecija. Data was gathered through a survey of 120 farmer respondents. Results indicated that use of the machine could decrease seeding rate and increase the number of tillers of rice and rice plant which is comparable with transplanted rice. However, the logistic regression model shows that climatic and economic factors significantly influence adoption of the technology.
