PhilRice develops and improves rice-based food products to promote the utilization of rice as raw material for food processing and other applications. These value-added products have spurred greater demand for rice as more people venture into rice-based enterprise. As a result, farmers benefit from the additional income brought about by the increased profitability in rice farming. PhilRice food products are showcased in exhibits, trade fairs, and expositions. Another important promotional strategy is hands-on training, either at PhilRice or on-site. A major drawback of hands on training is the accompanying high cost from the ingredients, materials, accommodation, and transportation. Consequently, a limit has been set on the number of training sessions conducted and the technologies no longer reaches far flung areas where more individuals can be empowered through skills enhancement. For more effective dissemination, a learning tool that will significantly contribute to the cost-cutting measure in training expenses while making available learning medium that is more convenient and accessible to a wider range of audience was made available. The instructional video is the perfect resource for anyone - beginner or experts wanting to hone their skills in preparation of rice-based products. The 21 products under the categories rice meals, native delicacies and pastries or desserts were carefully selected and prepared on a step-by-step manner by food experts from Philrice. Celebrity hosts were tapped to initiate lively discussions during the demonstrations. This instructional video compendium, which also included facts about rice and important cooking tips, is a fast, easy and fun way to learn the basics of preparing rice-based food products.
